MEI Hosts Ambassadors to and from Libya at Special Briefing
03/02/2010 On March 2, 2010, the Middle East Institute was proud to host an event that featured a discussion on Libyan-American relations. Speaking were Ambassador Gene Cretz, the first American ambassador to Libya since the 1970s, and his counterpart, Ambassador Ali Aujali, the Libyan ambassador to the United States. Cretz spoke of the American intention to help Libya upgrade its non-lethal military equipment for African peacekeeping missions, while Aujali hoped that his nation and the United States could continue to cooperate on issues such as counterterrorism and trade. For further information on the event, please see Viola Gienger's story in Bloomberg or at Blake Hounshell's write-up on the blog The Cable at Foreign Policy. |
