Dr. Marvin Weinbaum Testifies for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs about Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and Pakistan
03/11/2010 On March 11th, Dr. Marvin Weinbaum, a Scholar-in-Residence at the Middle East Institute, testified before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia of the House of Representatives Commitee on Foreign Affairs about Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, a Pakistani jihadi organization. Dr. Weinbaum stated that Lashkar-e-Tayyiba represents a serious threat and that "Were Pakistan to become seriously destabilized, LeT's reputation for charity, piety and patriotism, together with its close ties to senior officers of the Pakistani military and intelligence establishment, would make it a potential vehicle to transform the Pakistani society into a Sharia state similar to that of Afghanistan in the 1990s."
