Dr. Maki Fukami is the co-founder and president of the International Institute of Global Resilience (IIGR). Dr. Fukami is the only organization management scientist who has studied Emergency Management in Japan. She has undertaken extensive fieldwork in the Japanese Fire Service and Coast Guard for more than 10 years and is currently the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Japan Council President and the Global Board member. She was selected as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellow 2005 through 2007 and 2009 through 2011. She was also a Visiting Scholar at the Japan Coast Guard Academy in 2005 (Research and Development of Simulation Training), of UCLA in 2006 (Research about Incident Command System), and at George Washington University in 2010 (Research about American Emergency Management). Dr. Fukami’s Her research interests focus on organization development and organization design in Public Management and Emergency Management. Her publications include “Emergency Management as an Applied Management Science”, which appeared in Organizational Science, a Japanese peer-reviewed Journal in June 2012. Her research interests focus on organization development and organization design in Public Management and Emergency Management. Dr. Fukami earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Kyoto University.
