The Middle East Institute (MEI) is seeking to hire a consultant to serve as an assistant editor on its digital publications team. Responsibilities include editing a wide variety of editorial content (blog posts, articles, policy briefs, and papers) for MEI’s Policy Center, as well as reviewing submissions, corresponding with scholars and contributors, managing an editorial calendar, and laying out and publishing content.
The candidate will be supervised by and work in close conjunction with MEI’s editorial director, based in Washington, DC. Applicants must have professional experience writing and editing in English with a focus on international affairs or foreign policy, preferably on the Middle East. Knowledge of relevant regional languages (especially Arabic) and AP style is a plus, and experience using content management systems or Adobe Creative Suite is highly preferred.
The candidate must be willing to commit 20 hours a week.
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Minimum of two years of experience editing and proofreading
- Familiarity with Middle East policy issues
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline while maintaining high editorial standards
Salary commensurate with experience.
