Senior Accountant The Middle East Institute (MEI) seeks a senior accountant to manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions of the finance department. The senior accountant prepares month-end closing and various accounting reports. This position reports to the chief financial officer and works closely with other members of the Institute.


  • Prepares and analyzes AR & AP reports

  • Creates and tracks invoices per requests from various departments

  • Closely monitors credit card transactions and reconciles accounts

  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly and escalates outstanding issues to the CFO

  • Assists in the year-end closing processes ensuring transactions are in accordance with policies and that procedures are followed

  • Assists in financial analysis and ad hoc reports as requested

  • Identifies inefficiencies and problems in accounting processes and recommends and assists in implementing improved procedures

  • Makes Journal entries

  • Processes payroll

  • Assists during external audit


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 3+ years of related professional experience in the non-profit sector

  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is required

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong attention to details
