Worldwide, many of us are already feeling the pinch from higher gasoline prices due to COVID-19-related logistics issues. Major ports are backed up, highlighting just how much of the world’s refined and unrefined gasoline is imported. In the eastern United States, the Colonial Pipeline cyberattacks are a recent and painful memory. Now Iran is facing a similar challenge, as cyberattacks against payment systems at gas stations are affecting citizens going about their everyday lives, leading to widespread gasoline shortages. Long lines of cars, trucks, and emergency service vehicles are stuck waiting for hours to fill up — only to leave frustrated and empty-handed.
