The Middle East Institute and the American Tunisian Association are proud to host Jerry Sorkin, president of TunisUSA, for a talk about his many perspectives regarding Tunisia. This North African country has been applauded by foreign dignitaries for its many achievements, including its progressive family and gender laws. But it is no secret that Tunisia also has its critics who state that democratic reforms are too slow in coming. In October 2009, Tunisia held elections which resulted in the fifth consecutive five-year term for President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Sorkin will attempt to provide insight into what lies ahead for Tunisia in the coming five years.
