The Middle East Institute is proud to host author and Brookings senior fellow Ken Pollack for a discussion of his book, Unthinkable: Iran, the Bomb, and American Strategy (Simon & Schuster, 2013). In his latest work, Pollack explores the protracted tensions underlying the U.S.-Iranian relationship, how it evolved to its current status, and how the U.S. should best address Iran's nuclear ambitions. Drawing on his experience as a former CIA analyst and 25 years of working on Middle East issues, Pollack addresses the key questions of the Iran nuclear issue and assesses the various policy alternatives U.S. policymakers face today. Afterwards, Mr. Pollack will sign copies of his book.Bio:Kenneth M. Pollack is a well-known expert on the Middle East and Persian Gulf and has appeared frequently on The Oprah Winfrey show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Charlie Rose, C-SPAN, NPR, and in numerous other media outlets. He is currently a senior fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. He began his career as a Persian Gulf analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency and has served twice on the staff of the National Security Council including as Director for Persian Gulf Affairs. He has also held positions as a Senior Research Professor at the Department of Defense's National Defense University, as Director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, and as a Research Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Dr. Pollack earned his BA from Yale and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author of 7 other books on the political, military and economic affairs of the Middle East including The Threatening Storm, and The Persian Puzzle.
