Matteo Moretti is a Junior Member at the International Affairs Institute (IAI) in Rome and holds a double master’s degree in European and International Studies from the University of Trento and the Metropolitan University of Prague. His research interests include the EU’s foreign relations, especially with the Gulf. He has presented at the Gulf Research Meeting (2021) and the EUMENIA Conference in Amman (2022).
In February 2022, the Council of the European Union gathered in Brussels to discuss the extension of the Coordinated Maritime Presence (CMP) concept to the North-Western Indian Ocean. Its decisions constituted a rare consensus among E.U. member states that Gulf maritime security is a strategic interest for Europe as a whole.
