Sami Zaptia is a Libyan businessman with varied interests in real estate development, training, research, B2B services, and media. He is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Libya Herald (www.libyaherald.com), established in Tripoli in 2012. He is a founding and active member of the UNDP Libya Experts Forum (LEF), which is currently working on several Libya policy papers. His analysis and opinion contributions have appeared in numerous media platforms, including Al Jazeera, BBC, BuzzFeed, El Pais, the Guardian, ITN, ISPI, Reuters, Rte, TRT, WSJ, WNYC, and VOA.

    Last Sunday, the pandemic claimed the life of the most internationally prominent face of the Arab Spring in Libya. The tragic death of former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril in a Cairo hospital, at just 68 years of age, is in fact a fitting metaphor for the many stillborn aspects of Libya’s attempted political rebirth.
