(Washington, DC, July 25, 2025) – The Middle East Institute (MEI) congratulates former Board of Governors member John K. Hurley on his confirmation by the US Senate to serve as Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the US Department of the Treasury.
Hurley brings decades of experience from both the private sector and public service to this critical national security role. He is the managing partner at Cavalry Asset Management, managing member of TGK Ventures, and a long-time lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His previous government service includes a term on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board.
“John has long brought a deep understanding of international finance and national security to everything he does,” said Ambassador (ret.) John P. Abizaid, Chairman of MEI’s Board of Governors. “During his time on MEI’s Board, his strategic insight and dedication to MEI’s mission were invaluable. I am confident he will serve with great distinction in this important role at Treasury, and I congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment.”
Hurley served on MEI’s Board of Governors starting 2023, stepping down recently to pursue this new appointment. The Institute is grateful for his service and looks forward to future collaboration in pursuit of regional stability and US national security interests.
