On behalf of the Middle East Institute, I would like to congratulate MEI Board Member George Salem on his appointment as inaugural Chair of the Partnership for Peace Fund. Mr. Salem is the ideal person to advance the mission of this multi-million dollar fund aimed at strengthening people-to-people engagement between Palestinians and Israelis, increasing understanding and building the foundation for peaceful coexistence and a sustainable two-state solution.
Mr. Salem has been a distinguished and long serving member of MEI’s Board of Governors. He was a pioneer in supporting a Palestine Lecture Series at MEI through his family foundation, and then helping support the establishment of a full-fledged Palestine Program at the Institute. We share the aspirations of the Partnership for Peace Fund in building the foundations for peaceful coexistence and a two state solution, and I wish George and the Fund’s Board great success in furthering the valuable goals of the Fund.
